| Q1. What is Reds Direct ? |
A1: Reds direct is an initiative whereby Dons Fans can contribute money to a central fund, run by an independent committee, initially investing in youth development at AFC. The AFC Trust will set up and have overall responsibility for the scheme.
| Q2. How can Reds Direct make a difference? |
A2: Over the past few years, every SPL Club has failed in some respect, some with almost fatal consequences. This has mainly been due to mismanagement by the individual Club’s Boards. Supporters Trusts believe the future of the game lies with significant ownership of football clubs by the fans. They are the lifeblood of any club and the most reliable source of revenue for most clubs through the purchase of tickets and merchandise. However, more is required to make a significant difference towards establishing financial stability for AFC and it is believed Reds Direct will achieve this by creating a regular income stream for the club from fans.
| Q3. How will it be possible for supporters to achieve part-ownership? |
A3: This might initially seem to be a very daunting task. This does not necessarily mean a takeover of the Club but it is hoped, over time, to obtain greater representation and influence in the management of the club. In return, Reds Direct will raise significant funds targeted at improving specific areas of the Club.
| Q4. How much does it cost to become a member of Reds Direct? |
A4: Supporters can contribute in one (or both) of two ways: (1) by making a one-off donation (minimum £15) or (2) make a regular monthly donation (minimum of £5/month)
| Q5. Are these figures not too low to make any difference? |
A5: If 1000 fans join the scheme and pledge £5/month, this means £60,000 per year will be raised – a significant sum for any SPL club. The contributions are pitched at a level that enables any fan, almost regardless of means, to contribute towards future success. Naturally, it is hoped that fans capable of giving significantly more, will do so.
| Q6. What reassurance is there that the money will not disappear down the well-known Pittodrie “Black Hole” of debt? |
A6: The Reds Direct initiative will initially be administered by AFC Trust but after an initial settling in period, the responsibility will be delegated to a small management group. This group will be made up of supporters, representatives from the business community, Reds Direct members, employees of the Club and any other individual considered appropriate. They will ensure that all finance raised will be spent by the Club in approved areas of football development and not on day-to-day administration or clearing any debt.
| Q7. Can we trust the AFC Board? |
A7: We need to re-establish a measure of trust. The Board will be required to be completely transparent in the use of Reds Direct finance and the Reds Direct management group will ensure this. In addition, the Club and AFC Trust have negotiated an agreement which ensures that any funds raised will not go towards financing debt.
| Q8. What specific area will the finance be used for? |
A8: The future success of the Club lies in the development of young players and consequently, for the foreseeable future, all funds are targeted for Youth Development. The Trust and the Club have agreed this is the most appropriate area to target funds.
| Q9. What does the Fan get out of this? |
A9: In return for the investment made in the Club by the Reds Direct scheme, the AFC Board have agreed that 300,000 shares in AFC would be made available, at an agreed price, over a three-year period. This will give fans a greater say in the management of the Club and satisfaction of seeing young players develop.
| Q10: How much are we trying to raise? |
A10: The initial target is £50,000 per year for three years. If Reds Direct proves to be successful, the scheme may be extended beyond three years.
| Q11. Do I have to be a member of the Trust to join Reds Direct? |
A11: No – anyone can join.
