AFC Trust Call for Dons Fans to Turn Holiday Season Red
    01/12/2006
The AFC Trust calls for all Dons fans to turn the holiday season red by attending in large numbers at the upcoming critical home matches with Falkirk, Rangers and Kilmarnock.

The team has shown exactly the attitude and form we all want to see since the Queens Park result and have climbed to joint second on the SPL. The team need to maintain the improvement they have made, but without the AFC support returning in greater numbers it will be difficult to progress from where we are now.

It is disappointing that the average Pittodrie crowd is about 1000 below last season's average (and now only fifth best in Scotland behind Hibs, Hearts and the Old Firm) despite the recent run of form.

If we want AFC to be third, or higher, in the league table, fans need to get behind the team and get back third in terms of support levels.

The holiday period and the attractive games against the teams in the top half of the table give all supporters the opportunity to get behind the team, put the city of Aberdeen's name firmly on the map over the festive period and deliver a RED Christmas by edging in front of Rangers to second in the SPL.

Boosting the home support could be the stimulus that sees the Dons pressing home a realistic challenge for a European (if not Champions League!) spot. An extra 2000 fans at the three home matches will generate an extra £90,000 which would go straight to bottom line and be spent on the squad helping keep talents such as Russell Anderson and potentially help attracting others.
